Each Early Stage Researcher undertakes a Professional Internship Placement (PIP) as part of their training and development on the programme. This two - week work experience placement uses the scientific training gained by the PhD students and applies it to a different sector ( e.g. media, policy making, schools outreach, patent law). Each PIP is intended to promote movement across sectors and help develop each Early Stage Researcher's understanding of the impact of their research on the wider economy and society as well as helping to identify potential career paths for them post-PhD.
A wide range of associate partners have already highlighted their keenness to provide placements for the ESRs. They include: Marks& Clerk, Nature Publishing Group, Flooved, Q5 partners, Imperial Innovations, Bio Nano consulting, PhotoBiotics and New Scientist.
